For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed reading and writing. I loved the feeling of being transported to another world just through words on a page. I could be a wizard or a princess or a spy on a top secret mission. I could be all of these, through writing.
Reading all the time has strengthened my vocabulary so much. Whenever I was unable to grasp the definition of the word from the context, I would either look it up or ask my parents. I remember when I first read Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. I was amazed that in just 337 pages, Rick Riordan had managed to capture my attention by successfully mixing ancient Greek mythology and the modern world. Just this year, I was introduced to the Divergent trilogy. After getting the first book, I proceeded in finishing the series in a week. Veronica Roth did a fabulous job of implementing adventure, romance, and wit in her three book series. Recently, I completed John Green's novel The Fault In Our Stars. My attention was captured in this heartwarming novel about cancer. I was able to relate personally to the book because of having a personal experience with the illness.
I enjoy writing personal narratives now because I like reliving moments. Looking back on fond memories translates well in my writing. My best writing also happens to be personal narratives. For me, writing the emotional part of persuasive essays is easy, but writing the ethical and logical part, that is hard. Poetry is probably my favorite type of writing since I can put my thoughts into words without having to follow a very specific format.
I have improved so much as a writer this year, in Journalism and in English. My goal for this year was to find a method of writing essay's that made sense to me and was a correct format. Ms. Thomas helped me very much in that sense. Next year, I am going to apply these methods to my essay's and, hopefully, become very successful. Ms. Thomas was very helpful in my development as a writer and has helped me grow as a writer and a student.
